World Series Final Game Captures 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning contest where the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a total over 50 million viewers in the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball announced this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest drew over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total American average reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09M watchers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
